St Maarten Last Day and Home

Tags:

On the last day in St Maarten we went back over to Maho Beach to watch the big KLM 747 come in for a landing. The flight was supposed to arrive at 11am, but we knew from the day the day before that they tend to come in early.  We arrived at Maho Beach around 10:15 just to be safe.  While we were out there we saw this boat come up and stay in the general area.  The assumption was they were waiting for the plane to come in also.

When we were at Maho Beach on Monday the beach was practically empty, but today there was quite the crowd just waiting for the plane to come in.

After waiting about 30 minutes we could finally see the plane in the distance.  We were standing off to the side of the runway.  There were many people standing right underneath. When the plane did go by I felt the sand kick up on my and hit me all over my body.  It was an interesting experience.  Here are some photos of it coming in.

The guy above was in my shot but I like it, he looks cool.  I gave him my card to message me if he wanted a copy of it.  After leaving Maho Beach we went over to Phillipsburg where the cruise ships come in.  This was a nice area but there was only one ship that was scheduled to come in so the place was pretty empty.  This area is a, dare I say it, tourist trap.  So many stores and all the same stop.  We did stop and have lunch at The Blue Bitch Bar.  Unfortunately, the food was ok and the service was pretty bad.  The view was great though and true to St Maarten fashion the drinks were strong.  All of the drinks we had on the island were pretty strong.

After leaving Phillipsburg we went back to our hotel and relaxed on the beach.  We were able to watch the cruise ship leaving around 5:30pm.  One of the reasons I don’t like cruises they always leave too early.

The following morning we had to wake up early to leave this island paradise.  We had called the front desk to ask about a taxi and they said there would be plenty there.  There were not.  There was one driver who had a bus.  Thankfully he was able to take us to the airport about a six minute drive.  The airport was not crowded at all.  We did not get first class coming back and I believe I slept part of the time.  Here is a video of take off.

We did end up getting delayed in Miami but we managed to make it home by 5pm.  Just in time for dinner.

Next up a drive out to Tarpon Spring, Florida
