Venice

Back in October of 2015 we took our vacation to Italy and then some.  Our idea was to spend a few days in Venice then drive to Cinque Terre and spend a few days there then drive to Cannes with a day trip to Monaco.  I’m going to say this was one of my favorite vacations.  We left for Venice leaving from Philadelphia we are always so happy to go on vacation.

These flights are pretty long over 8 hours and can be tiring.  Sometimes when you get there finding your way out of the airport can seem impossible.  We had been to Venice once before and we had taken a bus from the airport to Venice. There are very few cars allows on most of Venice, there is bus station once you cross the bridge and then over by the university there are cars.  This time we decided to take a water bus over to Venice.  It was a really dreary day when we arrive and the waters were quite rough. Here we are looking pretty tired but happy to be in Italy.

Here’s a quick video I took of the boat ride to the islands.  (Mind you it was a pretty long walk from the airport to where the boats are).  We purchased our tickets in the airport but you can also purchase them at the boat docks.

The rain was kind of a misty type.  Thankfully the hotel was not to far from the water taxi stop.  Please consider this when booking a hotel.  I regular site is watching people pulling their luggage trying to find their hotel.

Of course the main thing you see around town are the gondolas. They are beautiful pieces of art. We have not taken a gondola ride maybe we are too cheap or we like the view from the land.  Though we have done many water taxi rides.

A rainy day in Venice. The Gondola, we never rode the Gondola didn’t want to pay the price. but this one looked amazing. I belive they are all handmade. #venice #flightattendants wife

I love seeing them lined up on the side of the water and also the traffic jams that they cause.

Of course the gondola’s would be nothing without the gondoliers. I love the photo below.  They were just sitting there and I think I took just the one shot.  The older man was farther away but I love the old building behind him as he is relaxing.

We were in Venice in October as I stated and it was pretty crowded there.  This is supposed to be the low season but it seems as if there is no low season.

We ate at many different places in town.  There are so many good places to go that it’s hard to pick one.  At one of the places we went they had something called Rock Salad.  I didn’t know what it was it was just leafy greens.  Come to find out it was arugula.  Ah I was and love and now I love eating arugula.

If you want you can also eat on the water if you want. I love all of the courtyards and you also have St Marks Square where if you pay for some seeds the birds will eat out of your hands and even land on your head.

The bridge of Sighs is on of the many tourist locations. Not sure if you can see but those are tourist on the other side of the bridge taking photographs of the Bridge of Sighs.  If you look in the photos below you cans see that you can also kayak on the canals.  There fire department is also below and I’m assuming that people are getting luggage delivered to their hotel rooms in the  last photo.  All in all even though it was a dreary day for the most part it was great.

One of the things to note when traveling overseas, especially from the US to Europe is that the check in time is normally in the afternoon and flights tend to land in the morning.  Most of the hotel will hold your luggage for you so that you don’t have to drag it around with you, but you also don’t have the opportunity to freshen up in your room before you head out.  Though if you get lucky you will find one that already has the room ready.
