So you know it’s springtime when Beaches at Vilano is crowded with people on a Sunday afternoon. This is one of our favorite places to go in the summer. I love sitting by the water and having drinks and eating watching the children play in the water and boats driving by. They have very tasty food, their fish tacos have just enough spice to tickle the taste buds. If you happen to go here note there is extra parking in a dirt lot to the right of the entrance. It was about 1:30 pm when we arrived and the main parking lot was already full. There was a 30-minute wait to be seated for lunch. We started with a drink at the bar or rather we ordered the drink and went and sat on the steps leading to the beach. All three of us had Spicy Bloody Mary’s, they were made with a thick bloody mary mix. I prefer it that way.
After less than 30 minutes we were seated at our table. Our server was prompt and after looking over the menu we ordered our meals. The server even checked for Natalia that her meal was gluten free.
I decided to have the shrimp tacos with caribbean rice and beans, and Natalia decided to have the Grilled Caribbean Sugar Cane Shrimp, and my husband (Michel) decided to have the Feta Chicken Sandwich blackened with macaroni and cheese. It took a little while for the meals to come out and while waiting I ordered a painkiller. Natalia ordered another drink though I don’t remember what it was. The meals looked amazing when they came out.
All of the meals were great and I was completely full with my meal and could not eat another bite. The only complaint was that the shrimp sugar cane meal only came with two plantains and maybe there should have been more. Did you notice in the photo that the shrimp skewer was actually a sugar cane?
Beaches is a restaurant that I recommend for food and for the view at dinner time (but really anytime) but be prepared to wait as it is a very popular place. Also, on a side note, I recommend their shrimp and grits. This is a meal I try every time I go someplace that has it as it is one of my favorites.
This was one of the places that I worried about during the hurricane and I’m glad it made it through.
